The Prince of Calcutta

The last few days have been hectic. Two colleagues are out on tour, three are stricken by chicken pox. And I've been having doubts about why I should be writing a blog at all when I write for Cricinfo. Writing blogs is so often self-indulgent ... The future of this blog is in serious doubt, and a retirement announcement may well be around the corner.

But, I thought I might point anyone who still reads this to an interview I did on Cricinfo. Sourav Ganguly spoke to me on the eve of the final Test. The interview is here

Hi Anand,
I've enjoyed reading your commentary, both on Cricinfo and here.
As to your question of why you should continue, I would like, as a fan, to reply with two words.
"Not Cricinfo". Not everything you wish to say will be publishable, as you point out, in the media, so what better way than a blog?!
Sincerely hope you continue penning down your thoughts here, for you will definitely have a very interested audience, eager to engage in conversation with you on all things cricket!

Dude, first of all, there is a dearth of cricket blogs on the net (or maybe I just can't find them). Secondly, you're one of the only people who can pull one off without sounding like a loser - trust me, I know, I tried my hand at one myself (http://pindiexpress.pitas.com) and I don't know what I was trying to achieve but it was a failure. Anyhow, you write extremely well, so if it doesn't take up too much of your time, and you DO enjoy it, there's no reason for you to stop. Even though Cricinfo is great, it's so much nicer reading what an expert sports journalist personally feels and thinks.
Enjoy the rest of the Pakistan adventure in India.
:)

Here's an idea. If writing opinion pieces leaves you feeling self-indulgent, why not maintain some kind of a tour diary. Or if that's too cumbersome, how about occasionally providing insights on the life of a travelling cricket journalist. It would make for interesting reading I think. And that would pretty much fall under the "Not Cricinfo" banner. Not that I am looking for sleaze though.

Stay.

Do keep writing. It would be sad if you stopped the blog.

One of the three colleagues
